Why is Versace's logo the head of Medusa?

Just wondering why the fashion house of Versace has used the head of Medusa as their symbol for so long? I have a hunch but want some other opinions...|||It is widely known that Gianni Versace had a fascination with classical art and architecture. Medusa was not always depicted as a hideous hag. During the Roman period, Medusa was depicted as a beautiful woman, with a few snakes intertwined. The Versace logo is that representation of Medusa, not the typical more common 'hag' images of Medusa we see.
